What a Bloke ay!! Mick and I have spent the weekend reading the Trautmanns Journey book - me in the day and him in the evening so it's been :vision and no sound; for two days!!!!!!!
A truly fantastic man. Mick has been a fan since childhood and remembers catching a train at the age of 13 [imagine doing that now!]
to go and see Bert playing at Leicester - he's a lifetime fan.
I would love to write to Bert - is there any way. Does anyone have an address? I'd just love to get him an autograph for his 65th birthday. Can anyone help - PLEASE????!!!!!!

Bert was a true gent. In the late fifties when city signed Dennis Law for the first time a number of us (all under 10) went to the training ground (about 2 miles from home) to get Dennis's autograph. dennis refused to sign our autograph books until after the training session, so we waited until he came out, followed by Bert. Bert had been telling us to go home throughout the training session as he was worried our parents didn't know where we were and would be worried. Dennis Law walked staright past us, Bert followed asked if he had signed, and when told that he hadn't marched up to dennis and ordered him to go back to us and sign our autograph books. he then asked us how far away we lived and did our parents know where we were. When we repllied No, he gave ech one of us a lift home. explained to our parents where we had been and not to blame us but blame a young upstartr called Dennis Law! From that moment on I was a true blue. Thanks Bert

I have a signed photograph on my study wall from Bert, at the precise moment he broke his neck. Although it was 3 years before I was born, it remains a true inspiration. I once played 40 minutes of rugby with what turned out to be a broken arm. I eventually left the field, Bert didn't - what else can you say, what a man!!!
